Program Overview

The CFII is an efficient add-on for pilots who already hold their CFI and instrument rating. It is designed to get you demonstrating instrument procedures from the right seat to DPE standards — quickly and without wasted time.

All candidates are interviewed before training begins to evaluate instrument proficiency and currency. Based on that assessment, a tailored plan is built — so your hours and timeline reflect where you actually are, not a one-size-fits-all estimate.

Training covers right-seat instrument proficiency including precision and non-precision approaches, holds, and partial panel, as well as teaching methodology for instrument procedures and thorough oral exam preparation. All training in the Diamond DA40 — glass cockpit, Garmin G1000 avionics.

Frequently Asked Questions

How long does the CFII take?

7 to 12 days start to checkride, depending on your instrument proficiency at the time of assessment. Candidates with recent IFR experience typically finish faster.

What is the proficiency assessment?

Before training begins, we evaluate your instrument flying skills and currency. This lets us build a plan that reflects where you actually are — so you don't pay for training you don't need.

Do I need to be instrument current?

Currency is preferred but not required. If you're rusty, the assessment will identify what needs work and the training plan adjusts accordingly.

Is financing available?

Yes. Financing is available through Stratus Financial.

Can I do this program remotely/accelerated?

Yes. The CFII is designed as an accelerated add-on. Many students travel to Mesa specifically for this program and complete it within two weeks.
