The Way You Train Determines the Pilot You Become

Flight Stars is a flight school at Falcon Field Airport in Mesa, Arizona. We specialize in multiengine training in the Diamond DA42 — the ideal advanced trainer for professional multiengine training.

Standards aren't negotiable here. Instructors are selected, not just hired. And the relationship between student and school is built on trust, not transaction.

We don't have employees — we have team members who treat the business as if their success depended on it. The people below run the business with a single mission: to move your aviation career forward.

The People Running the School

Ownership, chief pilot oversight, operations, maintenance, sales, customer success, and marketing — the team that sets the standards and keeps the Diamond Aircraft fleet flying every day.

Carol and Matt Schulz are the co-founders of Flight Stars. As of May 2026, they — with the help of their team — have built and scaled a multiengine training center over two years, blending aviation expertise with smart business leadership to help pilots achieve their personal, professional, and financial goals.

Carol Schulz

Carol Schulz

Co-founder · Owner

Carol is a commercial pilot with a Premier Jet PIC type rating and a CFII. Her aviation journey began in Medellín, Colombia, where she was born. She passed her Private Pilot checkride in October 2021 with DPE Chip Bornstein — now Flight Stars' Chief Pilot — and rapidly earned her remaining ratings. She went on to instruct as a CFI at Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University and flew the Premier Jet and Citation CJ3+, logging 1,300 flight hours before focusing full-time on the business. Carol is deeply passionate about helping people achieve their personal, professional, and financial goals through aviation.

Chip is a Designated Pilot Examiner (DPE) in Arizona and has been a flight instructor for over 43 years. He also flies as a captain for a major airline on the Boeing 777. He has worked as an airline flight safety manager, check airman, assistant chief pilot, and FAA en route radar air traffic controller. Chip holds a Bachelor of Science in Psychology and a Master of Arts in Adult Education and Training. His goal is to help others achieve their aviation objectives with an emphasis on safety and the standards.

Anthony Gimenez

Anthony Gimenez

Operations

Anthony has been with Flight Stars since the very beginning, helping build the school's operations from the ground up. His love for aviation started long before that — he's been a sim pilot since 2004, logging over 25,000 hours of simulator time, and spent seven years as a flight attendant seeing professional aviation from the inside. That passion eventually pushed him to pursue flying for real: he now holds a private pilot certificate with multiengine and instrument ratings. Today he keeps the day-to-day operations at Flight Stars running smoothly — and there's nothing he enjoys more than talking airplanes with anyone who shares the passion.

Sarah Johnson

Sarah Johnson

Customer Success

Sarah never expected a career in aviation, but the industry found her — and now she'll never look back. She met her fiancé while he was completing his Instrument training, and about a year later, when he accepted a position as a Certified Flight Instructor, an opportunity opened up at the flight school's front desk. Sarah took a chance on an industry she knew little about — and quickly discovered she loved helping students navigate their aviation journeys.

Today, Sarah is passionate about supporting aspiring pilots and creating a positive experience for every student who walks through the door. She takes pride in building relationships with students throughout their training, and enjoys being part of an industry that helps people achieve their dreams. While aviation wasn't originally part of her plan, she can't imagine being anywhere else — and looks forward to helping the next generation of pilots succeed.

Leo Moser

Leo Moser

Marketing

Leo leads marketing at Flight Stars — the brand, the website, the content, and the digital systems that connect aspiring pilots to the school. With eight years in marketing and a parallel career as a professional photographer (behind the lens since 2007), he brings a storyteller's eye to how Flight Stars looks, sounds, and shows up online. His background is in marketing rather than aviation — which keeps the focus exactly where it belongs: telling the school's story clearly and helping the right pilots find their way to the hangar.

Our MEIs

They're the reason students finish their multiengine rating in ten days and walk out first-attempt pass. You'll leave with the habit patterns, IFR discipline, and systems fluency that carry into your first turbine transition.

Will is an Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University–trained flight instructor with a strong foundation in structured, professional aviation education. With over 1,200 hours of dual instruction given, he emphasizes precision, standardization, and disciplined aeronautical decision-making in every lesson. Our CFIs

Primary training is the foundation every other rating sits on. Our CFIs teach stick-and-rudder, checklist discipline, and G1000 fluency the same way our MEIs teach a professional twin cockpit — so the habits you build in the DA40 carry straight into the DA42 and beyond.
